Hi folks, I'm Lee Dowdy, an old coalminer.

Born in the middle of the Great Depression.
Nine fat pounds and a quiet expression.

Lost weight for six years on  a diet of beans,
Never did fill out them denim jeans.

But we was'ant poor, no not us,
Raised a garden and hogs with no fester or fuss.

Dad worked the mines once in a while,
Mother ran the family all witty and beguild

They're both gone, brother and sister too,
Upper Dry For Creek is anything but new.

My wife Andree will surely outlive me,
Married forty four years and still on one knee.

Our Trisomic son never did grow up,
Takes his training like a good little pup.

His daddy kept studying as writers  all want to do,
Wound up with a Masters at FSU. (Florida State University)

Studied geography, education and  history  on the side,
While working as an electrician far and wide.

That was after Air Force and some Army grief,
Drove'em all crazy as a communications chief.

USAA member and retired Army Reserve,
Too old to do nothing but watch and observe.

As others, got my share of honors and awards,
Trade'em all in, for a laying down of swords.

Wrote hundreds of poems, prose, songs and plays,
Pleasant way to pass my retirement days.

Floating thru life enjoying the view,
If I can't do what I like, learn to like what I do.

That's Lee Dowdy, from West_By-Gawd-Virginia!!!!!!
