The Clinch Valley News - 1969

 Freida J. Riley, 32, of Squire, W. Va. died Tuesday, August 5,  in the West Virginia University Medical Center in Morgantown. Born in Squire, she was the daughter of J. F. & Sallie Beavers Riley. She was a graduate of Big Creek High School and Concord College. She did graduate work at Ohio State University and West Virginia University. She taught math at Big Creek High School and was affiliated with several organizations in the education field. She was a member of the Advent Christian Church in Squire, W. Va. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Dean of Tazewell, one niece Emily Dean of Tazewell and two nephews Steven and Fred Dean of Tazewell. Funeral services were conducted Friday at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Orville Harvey officiating. Burial followed in Grandview Memory Gardens on Bluefield-Tazewell Road.

  Freida was the teacher in the movie "Rocket Boys" / "October Sky".   She was born in Squire, W. Va. and graduated, ninth grade, from Berwind Jr. High in 1952.
