One of the last residents of Kaymoor

Charles  Fox and his wife live in what was know as Kaymoor #1 Top
He started  at Kaymoor  after returning from the service, in 1950,
and worked loading coal until the mines "Worked Out" in the 1960's
He purchased what was once the old "Poolroom" from the "New River and Pocahontas"
and has lived there since.  It is the last remaining house of a once thriving community

Charles says they have all the modern comforts
including two baths.  His and hers - hers in
side - his outside

 

 

The New River Gorge - - famous for it's "Whitewater Rafting"
The rapids at Kaymoor are some of the most treacherous

 

 

Just over 3,000 feet  from end to end, the New River Gorge Bridge 
ranks as the worlds' longest single-span, steel-arch bridge  and rising 
nearly 900 feet over the river, the second-highest bridge in the United States

The south side piers are placed on the site of the tipple at Kaymoor Two - Bottom
